Mustangs Continue to Impress at UNLV Invite

LAS VEGAS, Nev. — The Cal Poly swimming and diving team continued its strong showing at the UNLV Invitational on Sunday as the Mustang men remained in second place heading into the final day of the meet.
The men are 35.5 points ahead of third-place Cal Baptist, while the women sit in sixth out of 10 teams.
Junior Ryan Trichler paced the Mustangs once again. He captured fourth in the 400-yard individual medley and swam a personal record (57.88) in the 100 breaststroke to grab fifth. In the individual standings, Trichler is in second place on the men's side with 52 points, while freshman teammate Alex Seybold is right behind him with 46.
Seybold secured seventh in the 400 IM and eighth in the 100 breast Saturday, while freshman Andrew Sullivan earned fifth in the 200 freestyle.
Senior Brian Wong grabbed sixth in the 100 butterfly and 100 breast, freshman Drew Huston was fifth in the 100 backstroke and senior Ryan Iannaccone placed seventh in the 100 back and ninth in the 100 fly.
Freshman Camilo Vargas (eighth 400 IM, 10th 100 breast), junior Sean Keegan (eighth 200 free), freshman Anthony Moskalenko (ninth 100 breast), freshman Cole Groom (10th 400 IM) and sophomore Evan O'Connell (10th 100 fly) also brought home quality individual finishes for the men.
In the men's 800 free relay, Trichler, junior Joshua Billotte, Keegan and Sullivan helped Cal Poly capture fourth. Huston, Trichler, Wong and Iannaccone carried the Mustangs to the same finish in the 200 medley relay.
The Cal Poly women continued to hold their own against some stiff competition. In the 400 IM, senior Kaia Anderson (pictured above) secured 11th, junior Kelly McDermott earned 13th and senior Samantha Rankin grabbed 14th. McDermott was also 19th in the 100 back.
Freshman Kiersten Weiler took 14th in the 100 back, senior Sophie Jackson was 17th in the 100 fly and 22nd in the 100 breast, and sophomore Taylor Lyon placed 18th in the 100 fly.
Weiler, Jackson, and seniors Erin Kim and Amy Harter secured eighth for the women in the 200 medley relay (1:44.88).

The three-day meet wraps up Monday with prelims set for 9:30 a.m. and finals scheduled for 5 p.m. You can watch all the action here.
