SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Senior midfielder Camille Lafaix added another historic accolade to her resume Thursday, becoming the fourth player in Cal Poly women's soccer history to receive United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-American honors.
Lafaix, a psychology major, was named to the Scholar All-America second team, joining Michelle George (1999), Carolyn Schifftner (1999, 2000, 2001) and Sierra Simmons (2005) as Mustangs that have earned the distinction.
Senior defender Kylie Rojas and Lafaix also garnered United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-West Region praise. Lafaix was selected to the first team, while Rojas grabbed second team honors.
Lafaix, who secured College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors a month ago, earned her second straight United Soccer Coaches All-West Region first team honor this fall to become the third player in program history to secure multiple All-West Region first team selections.
The Los Gatos, Calif. native led the Mustangs in points (11) and goals (five) this season, and buried three game-winning goals. The two-time Big West Midfielder of the Year ranks 15th all-time in career points (42) at Cal Poly and prior to this season became the first player in program history to be named to the Preseason MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List, which is awarded annually to the National Player of the Year.
A two-time All-Big West first team selection, Lafaix is now focused on playing the sport professionally and hopes to hear her name called during the 2023 National Women's Soccer League Draft on Thursday, Jan. 12.
Rojas, a business administration major, secured United Soccer Coaches All-West Region third team honors for the second consecutive season this fall. She netted her second career game-winner in the 80th minute of a 1-0 victory at Sacramento State on Aug. 28, and assisted on game-winning goals against CSUN and UC Irvine.
The dynamic defender played every minute in nine matches this year, and helped Cal Poly record 10 shutouts, the program's most in a season since 2009. Across her career, the Hayward, Calif. native has recorded 53 starts, 52 shots, four goals, three assists and 4,414 minutes.
