RIVERSIDE, Calif. — Seniors Kaia Anderson and Brian Wong each secured a pair of individual victories to highlight a strong showing by the Cal Poly swimming and diving program during duals Saturday at Cal Baptist.
The Mustang men battled the Lancers, while the women went head-to-head with San Diego and Cal Baptist. Overall, the Mustangs took home seven individual victories.
Head coach Phil Yoshida was pleased with what he saw from his swimmers in Riverside.
"There is no substitute for being aggressive," Yoshida said. "We are starting to see some real progress with attacking the races and responding to deficits to get back into races. We are starting our final preparations for the Utah Tech Invite in a couple weeks where we get to see how the team responds when suited up with some rest after six tough weeks of intense conditioning and lots of midterms."
Anderson grabbed first in the women's 400 individual medley (4:34.53) and 1650 free (17:33.90). Anderson also placed third in the 200 breaststroke. Sophomore Summer Cheng earned a win in the 100 butterfly (59.22) and swam the first leg on Cal Poly's second place 200 medley relay team, which also featured freshman Melia Costa, senior Sophie Jackson and senior Amy Harter.
