SAN LUIS OBISPO – The Cal Poly men's soccer program's 2022 National Letter of Intent signing class was announced Wednesday morning with midfielder Quinn Mahoney (Sacramento, Calif./San Juan SC) and defenders Cyrus Neghabat (Seattle, Wash./Real Colorado SC) and Parker Owens (Southlake, Texas/Solar FC) set to join the Mustangs ahead of the 2023 season.
Competing for San Juan Soccer Club, the 5-11 Mahoney – a three-year letterwinner for Rio Americano HS – was named 2021-22 Capital Athletic League Most Valuable Player after scoring 20 goals, contributing six assists and helping the program to a CIF Sac-Joaquin Section championship. Also a two-time All-Capital Athletic League first team honoree, Mahoney scored eight goals with four assists during his 2020-21 sophomore season.
Neghabat has spent the last two years competing with MLSNext side Real Colorado SC (Centennial, Colo.), helping the U-19 squad to a No. 2 national ranking during the 2022 term. Previously, the 5-11 Neghabat – who currently attends Erie (Colo.) HS and intends to major in business – competed for Barça Residency Academy (Casa Grande, Ariz.).
At club level for Solar FC, the 6-4 Owens was a U18/19 Elite Clubs National League All-America selection as well as an All-Texas Conference first team honoree. As a center back for Carroll HS, Owens – who intends to major in business administration – helped the program to 2019 and 2020 district titles and was named to the 2021-22 All-Region 4-6A first team while being selected as the Defensive Newcomer of the Year.
As a program, Cal Poly completed the 2022 season with a 3-2 home victory against CSU Bakersfield (Oct. 29).
