Cal Poly Men's Cross Country Garners Votes in National Poll Again

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — The Cal Poly men's cross country team received votes in the Week 5 USTFCCCA National Coaches' Poll released Tuesday for the second time this season.
The Mustangs, who captured sixth in Virginia's XC23 Invitational on Saturday without two of their top runners, garnered three votes in the poll.
Two weeks ago in the Week 4 National Coaches' Poll, Cal Poly received votes for the first time since 2013 after an impressive seventh-place finish in the Joe Piane Invitational hosted by Notre Dame.
This marks the first time since 2012 that Cal Poly has earned votes in back-to-back polls.
Graduate student Jake Ritter, a two-time Big West individual champion, paced the Mustangs in Virginia, placing 10th with an 8K time of 23:24.9, the 10th-fastest time in the history of the new Panorama Farms course.
The last time the Mustang men were ranked in the National Coaches' Poll was 2011.
In this week's West Region poll, the men were ranked No. 8 and the women 15th.
The Mustangs travel to UC Riverside's Ag/Ops Course for the second time this season on Saturday, Oct. 29, for The Big West Championships.
