SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- The Cal Poly men's and women's cross country teams both have earned top honors once again for the work in the classroom by the student-athletes.
The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) placed both Mustang squads on its All-Academic Teams for the 2021 NCAA Division I Cross Country season.
In order to qualify for All-Academic distinction, teams must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, including the most recent grading period.
The Cal Poly men's team, under the direction of head coach Mark Conover, compiled a 3.175 cumulative GPA through the 2021 Fall Quarter while the women's squad of head coach Priscilla Bayley put together a 3.334 team GPA.
All teams across the country who earned grade-point averages of 3.0 or better were eligible. A total of 150 men's teams and 168 women's squads landed on the All-Academic Teams.
Both Cal Poly cross country squads earned U.S. Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic Team honors together for the fourth straight year.
This marks the 11th season in a row in which the women's team has collected the distinction, while it's the men's squad's fifth full-roster USTFCCCA honor since 2012.
Combined between men's and women's cross country and track & field, Cal Poly has now had 29 teams and 44 individuals honored with USTFCCCA All-Academic status since 2006-07.
