
Cal Poly Beach Volleyball Releases 2022 Schedule

COMPLETE 2022 SCHEDULE
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — The Cal Poly beach volleyball team, the two-time defending Big West champions, announced its 2022 schedule Thursday, highlighted by eight days of home contests. This year's schedule proves to as challenging of a schedule the program has had with matches against six of the other seven teams that were in the NCAA Championships last season with the Mustangs and a total of 14 of the 20 teams that were ranked in the final AVCA Collegiate Beach Volleyball Poll at the end of last season. Returning five players who earned All-Big West honors last season, Cal Poly will open the season Feb. 26 in Tallahassee, Fla. with matches against North Florida and Florida State. The Osprey ended last season ranked 20th in the nation while Florida State finished fifth. The Mustangs will play two more matches in Tallahassee Feb. 27 against FAU, ranked 12th last year, and TCU, ranked eighth at the end of 2021. The following weekend March 5-6, Cal Poly will travel to Los Angeles for a two-day event hosted by UCLA, last year's national runner-up. There, the Mustangs will face Stanford who Cal Poly beat in last year's NCAA Championships for the program's first win in the NCAA Championships. They will also face Big West foe Long Beach State before the next day taking on Grand Canyon University and UCLA. Cal Poly's first home event of the season at Swanson Beach Volleyball Complex will be on March 11-12 in which the Mustangs will welcome in San Jose State, Loyola Marymount University, Washington, and Arizona State. LMU ended last season ranked third in the nation after making a run in the NCAA Championships to the semifinals. Cal Poly will host its second home event the following week March 20-21 with seven other teams coming to Swanson Beach Volleyball Complex. Those teams include Southern Mississippi, Houston Baptist, Pepperdine, Boise State, Cal, Arizona, and Santa Clara. The Mustangs will play six of those teams with the exception of Santa Clara. Three of those teams: Arizona, Cal, and Pepperdine were ranked in the top 14 at the end of last season. From there, the Mustangs will hit the road the following two weekends. They will head to Long Beach to play all six other Big West schools before going up to Palo Alto the next weekend to take on Stanford, Santa Clara, Long Beach State, and Saint Mary's. On April 15-16, Cal Poly will host its third annual Center of Effort Beach Volleyball Challenge at Swanson Beach Volleyball Complex in which four of the teams that finished ranked in the top five in last year's final AVCA Poll will come to San Luis Obispo. On Friday, April 15 the Mustangs will face last year's national champion in USC followed by another match against Florida State. On Saturday, April 16 they will take on UCLA and LMU both for the second time. Last season, Cal Poly finished with a 10-3 record at home. Cal Poly's final event of the regular season will be April 22-23 in Salt Lake City. There, they will face Arizona and Boise State once again as well as Salt Lake Community College and the University of Utah. For the first time, the Big West Tournament will take place at Swanson Beach Volleyball Complex April 29-30. The Mustangs will be looking to win the Big West for the third straight season after winning it in 2019 and 2021. The NCAA Championships will once again be held in Gulf Shores, Ala. May 6-8. Cal Poly will also be seeking to make it there for the third straight season.
