
90 Cal Poly Student-Athletes Earn All-Big West Academic Recognition

SAN LUIS OBISPO – A total of 90 Cal Poly student-athletes across 11 programs – an increase of six selections from last summer and 25 from two years ago – earned Big West Conference Winter and Spring All-Academic honors on Tuesday afternoon.
To be eligible for Big West All-Academic recognition, student-athletes must have maintained at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA, have attained a sophomore standing academically and competed in a minimum 50 percent of the program's games or meets.

The Cal Poly women's basketball team enjoyed a program record eight selections with 75 percent of its eligible roster recognized. Meanwhile, the Mustang men's basketball program saw junior forward Tuukka Jaakkola honored for the second successive season.
Cal Poly's beach volleyball program, which captured the 2021 Big West Tournament title to qualify for its second straight NCAA Beach Volleyball Championship appearance in May, collected a program record seven honorees. Seniors Macy Gordon and Tia Miric completed their collegiate careers as three-time Big West All-Academic honorees while juniors Jayelin Lombard and Vanessa Roscoe repeated their selections from a year ago.
For the ninth time under 17th-year head coach Jenny Condon, Cal Poly's softball program enjoyed at least five selections. Since 2013, Cal Poly's softball program has averaged five all-academic selections per season.
Across Ozzie Smith Plaza, the Mustang baseball program picked up five selections with junior outfielder Cole Cabrera earning his third straight honor.
Cal Poly's men's track and field program enjoyed 26 honorees, equaling the UC Santa Barbara men's team and UC San Diego women's team for the top spot among any Big West program. Coupled with the Mustang women's program's 20 honorees, Cal Poly's track and field programs collected more than half of the athletic department's 90 awards.
The Mustang men's tennis program, which finished the spring as Big West Tournament runner-up and No. 72 in the final Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division I Team Rankings, featured seven honorees – 58 percent of its roster.
Cal Poly's women's tennis program, also the Big West Tournament runner-up in 2021, enjoyed six honorees to double its total from 2020.
Earning his second straight honor, junior Will Draper headlined the Cal Poly men's golf program's three selections. The Mustang women's golf program, Big West champions for the second time in 2021, enjoyed two honorees with junior Elizabeth Scholtes repeating her selection from a year ago.
