SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Cal Poly head beach volleyball coach Todd Rogers will be part of the 2021 class inducted into the International Volleyball Hall of Fame later this year.
Rogers, who won a gold medal in beach volleyball at the 2008 Olympics, was a three-time Olympian and 2007 World Champion, will join eight others who will be inducted. He and the others will be celebrated in a ceremony at the Hall of Fame in Holyoke, Mass., on Oct. 15-16.
In addition to his Olympic accomplishments, some of Rogers' others accolades during his 20-year professional beach volleyball career included being named the 1997 AVP Rookie of the Year, AVP Most Valuable Player back-to-back seasons in 2006 and 2007, AVP Best Defensive Player for five straight seasons from 2004-08, and alongside his playing partner, Phil Dalhausser, was named the AVP Team of the Year in both 2007 and 2008.
For three consecutive years (2006-08), Rogers earned the FIVB Best Defensive Player of the Year honor, while being voted as the FIVB's Most Inspirational Player in 2008. He was also honored with the FIVB's Best Setter award in 2005. In total, Rogers won 24 FIVB gold medals
In 2007, Rogers and Dalhausser completed the AVP season with more than 800 points over the second-place team, which included 10 tournament victories. During the same year, the pair won the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball World Championships in Gstaad, Switzerland, which was the first such victory in U.S. Men's Beach Volleyball history. During their career together, they were AVP Tour champions five times (2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011).
Rogers took over as head coach of the Cal Poly beach volleyball team in 2016 after retiring from professional beach volleyball. In his first six years as head coach, Rogers had led the program to two Big West Championships and two NCAA Tournament appearances, collecting the program's first win in it in 2021.
This will be the third hall of fame Rogers has been inducted into. The San Marcos native was previously inducted into the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Hall of Fame for his achievements in indoor and beach volleyball and was inducted into the California Beach Volleyball Association Hall of Fame in 2019.
