Mechanics Bank Cal Poly Student-Athlete of the Week: Julianna Ruotolo

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — After winning the conference championship for the heptathlon at the Big West Track & Field Multi-Event Finals, Julianna Ruotolo was selected as the Mechanics Bank Cal Poly Student-Athlete of the Week on Monday.
Ruotolo earned her title with 4,832 points on Saturday at UCI's Anteater Stadium, compiling the 11th-highest score in school history.
The championship saw Ruotolo establish career-best performances in four of the weekend's events, including the 100-meter hurdles (via 15.66 seconds), long jump (18 feet and an inch), javelin throw (91' 7") and the pivotal 800m finale (2:20.75, which catapulted her into the lead).
The full stage of the BWC Championships will return to Irvine from May 13-15, debuting a new three-day format. Ruotolo also ranks No. 3 throughout the conference in the high jump for 2021, having cleared 5' 8.75" on March 13.
