SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — The Cal Poly beach volleyball team, winners of 11 of its last 12 matches, will travel across the Pacific this week for three dual matches and a pairs tournament against No. 14 Hawai'i at the Clarence T.C. Ching Complex.
The No. 6 Mustangs (14-4), will face the Rainbow Wahine (7-5) on Friday, April 9 at 9 p.m. PT before playing a double-header on Saturday, April 10 at 6 and 10 p.m. PT.
Fans can follow live stats for all three of those matches. Saturday's 10 p.m. match will be streamed at BigWest.TV through Spectrum Sports. Links for all of those can be found on the beach volleyball schedule page.
On Sunday, April 11 at 1 p.m., the teams will complete the weekend with an exhibition pairs tournament that will not count toward team or pair records. This weekend will mark the final away matches of the regular season. The format will be a 16-pair double elimination tournament with each match only playing one set.
Although Hawai'i leads the all-time series 8-4, Cal Poly has won four of the last five meetings including earlier this season when the Mustangs beat the Rainbow Wahine 3-2 at Swanson Beach Volleyball Complex.
Cal Poly is coming off a 1-1 weekend against a pair of ranked opponents. The Mustangs beat No. 9 Cal 3-2 and fell to No. 12 Stanford 2-3 on Saturday in Palo Alto. They are now 6-4 this season against fellow ranked opponents. The No. 2 duo of redshirt sophomore Jayelin Lombard and graduate transfer Amy Ozee won both of their matches against the Bears and Cardinal. They are now 12-5 together this season and are 8-2 over their last 10 matches.
Following this weekend, the Mustangs will play the final two weekends of the regular season at home. On Friday, April 16 and Saturday, April 17, they will host USC, Grand Canyon, UCLA, and Loyola Marymount (all top 10 teams) at Swanson Beach Volleyball Complex for the second annual Center of Effort Beach Volleyball Challenge.
They will then wrap up the regular season on Saturday, April 24 by hosting Santa Clara and Saint Mary's at Swanson Beach Volleyball Complex.
