SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Cal Poly's Women's Basketball program is set to welcome Julia Nielacna to the squad ahead of the 2021-22 season, the Mustangs announced Tuesday.
Nielacna comes to Cal Poly from San Francisco, where she averaged 8.0 points and 3.9 rebounds for the Dons in 2020-21. She shot .444 overall with USF this past year, including .353 from 3-point range.
"Julia is a versatile forward. She can stretch the floor with her 3 or can muscle her way inside," Mustang head coach Faith Mimnaugh said.
Nielacna, a 6-foot forward from Ostrów Wielkopolski, Poland, joins the Mustangs with two years of eligibility ahead. Among her highlights last year were a 20-point effort during a win over Sacramento State and an 18-point performance at Oregon State. Combined in her career for USF, she made 44 appearances, averaging 8.7 points and 3.0 boards.
Nielacna played for Poland at the 2017 FIBA U-18 European Championships, averaging 11.1 points along with 5.6 rebounds. Her club team also earned Poland's First Division championship in 2018.
"She has college and international experience having represented Poland. We had to face her a few years ago when she was playing for USF where she scored 24 points on us and hit the game-winner as a freshman," added Mimnaugh. "We're looking forward to having her join forces with the Mustangs."
Nielacna plans to major in Sociology at Cal Poly.
