Wang, Scholtes Spark Cal Poly to Fifth-Place Tie After 36 Holes

FRESNO, Calif. -- Led by Vanessa Wang and Elizabeth Scholtes, the Cal Poly women's golf team is tied for fifth place among 15 teams competing in the Fresno State Classic entering Tuesday's final round.
At the Copper River Country Club, Coach Sofie Aagaard's Mustangs posted rounds of 289 and 305 on Monday for an 18-over-par 594 total on the 6,122-yard par-72 layout, sharing fifth place with UC Davis.
Stanford leads the way with an eight-under-pat 568 total, with Fresno State and Long Beach State sharing second place, 12 strokes behind the Cardinal, with 18 more holes to play Tuesday morning.
Wang is tied for 15th place with a two-over-par 146 total following rounds of 72 and 74. Wang checked in with one birdie, 16 pars and one bogey in her morning round and two birdies and four bogeys in the afternoon.
Scholtes carded rounds of 72 and 75 and is tied for 22nd place with five other golfers with three-over-par 147 totals. Scholtes recorded four birdies, two bogeys and a double-bogey in her opening round and two birdies and five bogeys in the second round.
Nicole Neale is tied for 37th place after posting rounds of 72 and 78 while Madi Daniel is tied for 43rd place with a 73 and 78. Also scoring for Cal Poly was Caroline Cantlay with a 75 and 78 for 50th place.
Cantlay's 29 pars for the day is one off the lead and Wang had 28 pars, tied for third. Scholtes is tied for seventh in par-3 scoring at even par while Neale is tied for sixth in par-5 scoring at three under par.
Leading by three strokes heading into Tuesday's final round is Harriet Lynch of Fresno State with rounds of 68 and 66 for a 10-under-par 134 total. Rachel Heck of Stanford is second with a 69 and 68 while Brianna Navarrosa of USC is third at 138 with a 68 and 70.
