Cal Poly Slips to 17th Place in Lamkin Grips San Diego Classic

CHULA VISTA, Calif. -- The Cal Poly men's golf team seeks to improve on its 17-place standing in the final round of the Lamkin Grips San Diego Classic on Wednesday morning.
Coach Phil Rowe's Mustangs followed Monday's 298 total with a 316 Tuesday and has a 38-over-par 614 aggregate at the San Diego Country Club.
UCLA leads the 20-team event with a one-under-par 575 after a 288 Tuesday. Nevada is nine strokes behind the Bruins and New Mexico and Colorado are tied for third at nine over par.
Cal Poly's top finisher after 36 rounds of play is Will Draper, who was tied for sixth place after the first round with a 69 but carded an 80 Tuesday for a 149 total, slipping into a tie for 37th place.
Other four Mustang golfers competing in the three-day 54-hole event are Austin Liu with a secind-round 78 for a 154 total and 70th place, Luke Adam with a 78 for a 155 total and 78th place, and Dominick Hoover and Nicholas Mok, both tied for 97th place with 160 totals. Hoover posted an 80 and Mok an 84.
Devon Bling of UCLA, tied for second place after the first round, moved into the lead Tuesday with a 69 for a seven-under-par 137 total. Jackson Solem of Denver and Ryan Bisharat of San Diego are tied for second place, three shots behind Bling, and first-round leader Sam Harned of Nevada carded a 76 and is tied for fourth with three other golfers at one under par.
Draper is 10th with his eight birdies over 36 holes.
