Liu Helps Cal Poly to 16th-Place Finish in San Diego Classic

CHULA VISTA, Calif. -- Austin Liu beat par by a stroke to highlight Cal Poly's performance in the final round of the three-day Lamkin Grips San Diego Classic on Wednesday at the San Diego Country Club.
Liu's 71 lifted him 20 spots on the final leaderboard and was Cal Poly's top finisher as he placed in a tie for 49th place among the 112 golfers in the field. Liu posted a 54-hole nine-over-par 225 total.
Cal Poly finished 16th in the strong 20-team field which featured four Pac-12 teams. UCLA claimed the team title with a four-over-par 868 total, six shots ahead of Nevada. Washington was third at 875.
Devon Bling of UCLA claimed the individual crown with a four-under-par 212 total after carding rounds of 68, 69 and 75, Ryan Bisharat of San Diego was second, one stroke behind Bling, and a trio of golfers shared third place at two under par.
Mustangs Dominick Hoover and Nicholas Mok both posted final-round 74s and had identical 234 totals for 54 holes and a tie for 87th place.
Will Draper and Luke Adam both recorded 77s Wednesday. Draper claimed 55th place with his 226 total while Adams finished tied for 80th at 232.
Mok and Hoover both carded an eagle in the final round -- Mok on the 485-yard 14th hole and Hoover on the 513-yard second hole.
Liu finished tied for No. 1 with three other golfers in par-3 scoring at one under par.
Cal Poly returns to action March 22-23 at the Duck Invitational hosted by Oregon at the Eugene Country Club.
