NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- Home runs by Cole Cabrera, Matt Lopez and Reagan Doss powered Cal Poly to a 12-1 victory in the nightcap, completing a sweep of a Big West Conference baseball doubleheader against CSUN on Sunday at Matador Field.
Collin Villegas hit his first home run as a Mustang in the opener, a solo shot leading off the seventh inning to snap a 6-6 tie, and Cal Poly held on for the 7-6 victory.
The sweep lifted Cal Poly to 10-6 for the season and 2-1 in Big West games. CSUN fell to 1-2 and 1-2.
In the nightcap, Travis Weston (2-1) allowed one run and three hits over five innings for the victory, striking out nine Matadors. Chase Walter and Derek True each pitched one scoreless frame in the game called after seven innings due to the 10-run rule in effect this season.
Cal Poly scored in every inning but the fifth. Lopez's shot in the seventh gave the Mustangs a double-digit lead and True kept CSUN from scoring in the bottom of the seventh, ending the game early as darkness descended on the field.
Myles Emmerson produced his second straight three-hit game with a double and two singles. Doss also hit safely three times, including a solo home run with one out in the second frame.
Cabrera hit his third home run of the season, also a solo shot in the second inning.
Brooks Lee drove in two runs with a sacrifice fly and an RBI single. Doss, Lopez and Nick DiCarlo each knocked in two runs as well as Cal Poly outhit CSUN 11-5.
In the opener, Cal Poly jumped to a 4-0 lead with a run in the second inning and three more in the third. CSUN tallied six runs in the bottom of the third for a 6-4 lead.
The Mustangs scored single runs in the fourth, sixth and seventh innings to climb back on top. Sacrifice flies by Tate Samuelson in the fourth and Lopez in the sixth knotted the score and Villegas' shot to left broke the deadlock.
Redshirt sophomore right-hander Bryan Woo (1-2) pitched 5 1/3 scoreless innings in relief for the win, matching his career high with seven strikeouts. He also struck out seven in a start against CSU Bakersfield in 2019.
Kyle Scott retired the side in order in the ninth inning for his first save.
Cal Poly's nine hits included three by left fielder Myles Emmerson and two each by Cole Cabrera and Villegas. Four of Cal Poly's seven RBIs were courtesy of sacrifice flies, including two by Samuelson. Villegas and Joe Yorke also had two RBIs.
Final game of the series will be played Monday at 2 p.m. with freshman right-hander Bryce Warrecker making his first start on the mound for the Mustangs.
