Listed on the preseason depth chart as a middle reliever in second season at Cal Poly.
2021 -- A submarine-style pitcher, Walter appeared in 13 games, all in relief, as a true freshman with no record and a 4.24 ERA ... 12 strikeouts over 17 innings and held opposing batters to a .217 average ... longest mound stint was 3 1/3 scoreless innings against UC Riverside, scattering two hits ... season-high three strikeouts in 2 1/3 innings versus Nevada in his first collegiate game ... struck out seven in his first four appearances combined before notching just four the rest of the way ... played summer ball for Corvallis Knights of West Coast League, compiling 3-1 record and 5.47 ERA ... struck out 31 batters over 24 2/3 innings in 15 relief appearances, helping the Knights to their fifth straight WCL crown.
High School -- A 2020 graduate of Dana Hills High School, Walter played for the Dolphins as a sophomore, compiling 2-1 record and 3.78 ERA over 13 appearances with two saves and 26 strikeouts over 29 2/3 innings ... continued his baseball career with Baseball Performance Academy in a redshirt league as well as a year-round travel program ... BPA was named the top West Coast travel team for the summer of 2019 in the 15- and 16-year-old age group, but was shut down during pandemic in 2020 ... Walter twice was named to Perfect Game's all-tournament team and played in the Perfect Game World Wood Bat Association World Championship in the summer of 2019 ... also won Wilson Premier honors twice in 2017 and 2019 ... also ran track as a senior with best marks of 11.27 in 100, 22.53 in 200 and 48.98 in 400 ... Walter maintained a 4.5 grade-point average at Dana Hills, made the Principal's Honor Roll all four years and, after vising Xavier, chose to continue his academic and athletic career at Cal Poly because of "the overall combination of location in California, not too close to home, great academics as well as its great baseball program. Finally, I chose Cal Poly because of the culture of the baseball program and the school fits myself" ... played summer ball for Andersen's Pea Soup in Santa Maria, Calif.
