
Neale Leads Cal Poly to Top of Field in Season-Opening Event

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — In her first collegiate tournament, Cal Poly freshman Nicole Neale finds herself in second place after 36 holes of play in the season-opening Valley Invitational on Monday at the Bakersfield Country Club.
Neale, a Tesoro High School graduate of Orange County, carded rounds of 74 and 74 on the 6,029-yard par-72 course and enters the final round three shots behind second-round leader Brittany Shin of Cal State Fullerton.
Cal Poly leads the team standings with a 608 total, four shots ahead of Cal State Fullerton. California Baptist is another stroke back in third place among the 10 schools competing.
Mustang Vanessa Wang (pictured above) is tied for fourth place with a 152 total after rounds of 74 and 78 while Elizabeth Scholtes is in a tie for ninth place with a 75 and 78 for a 153 aggregate.
Also scoring for Cal Poly were Caroline Cantlay with an 81 and 75 for a 156 total and 17th place, and Madi Daniel with an 80 and 81 for a 161 aggregate and 38th place.
Competing as an individual, Carissa Wu is tied for 31st place with a 78 and 81 for a 139 total.
Neale is second in the field in par-3 scoring at even par and third in par-4 scoring at four over par. She also is the leader of the entire field with her eight birdies on the day. Wang is sixth in pars with 24.
