FIRST-DAY RESULTS
SEAL BEACH, Calif. -- Vanessa Wang is tied for sixth place and two other Cal Poly golfers are in the top 20 after two rounds of play Monday in The Gold Rush women's golf tournament hosted by Long Beach State.
On the 6,248-yard, par-72 Old Ranch Country Club course, Wang carded rounds of 74 and 75 for a five-over-par 149 total. She posted three birdies and five bogeys in the morning and one birdie and four bogeys in the afternoon.
Elizabeth Scholtes recorded a 76 and 77 for a 153 total and a tie for 13th place while Caroline Cantlay is tied for 19th place after posting a 76 and 78 fir a 154 aggregate.
Completing Cal Poly's scoring were Nicole Neale with an 81 and 76 for a 157 total and 33rd place, and Madi Daniel with a pair of 83s for a 166 total and a tie for 51st place.
Competing as an individual, Carissa Wu is tied for 45th place after carding an 81 and 82 for a 163 total.
Final round will be played Tuesday morning.
Cal Poly is fifth among the 11 teams competing in the two-day 54-hole tournament, posting a 307 and 306 for a 37-over-par 613 aggregate. Southern Cal leads at four over par with UNLV second, 17 shots behind the Trojans, and Fresno State third at 31 over par.
Allisen Corpuz of USC carries a two-stroke lead over Elina Saksa of UNLV and Alyaa Abdulghany of USX into the final round. Corpuz posted a 69 and 71 for a four-under-par 140 while Saksa (75-67) and Abdulghany (71-71) are two under with 18 holes to play.
Wang was third in par-5 scoring after 36 holes at three under. Scholtes carded an eagle on the 483-yard par-5 14th hole in the first round.
