Cal St. Fullerton Wins Game 2 to Earn Split with Cal Poly, 65-49
2/13/2021 7:11:00 PM | Women's Basketball
FULLERTON, Calif. — Sierra Campisano led Cal Poly with an 18-point effort on Saturday night at Cal State Fullerton, but the Titan women's basketball team shot 54 percent overall and 48 percent from 3-point territory, earning a 65-49 home win to salvage a split of the Big West back-to-back set.
CSF used a 13-2 run midway through the second quarter to take a 26-18 lead prior to halftime, but a 3 by Mustang redshirt sophomore guard Maddie Vick on the second-to-last possession of the period helped Cal Poly (now 9-7 overall; 5-5 in conference) close the deficit to 29-26 by the break.
Fullerton began the third quarter with a bang, as Gabi Vidmar connected from behind the arc to double the lead, jump-starting a 14-1 surge to open the second half for the hosts.
Campisano converted a layup, plus-the-foul, with 9:51 remaining in the fourth, and added the ensuing free throw to narrow the margin to 56-45. CSF countered with nine consecutive points, however, to stretch the gap to 65-45 with 4:26 left.
Five Titans hit 3-pointers on the evening, paced by Vidmar's 4-for-9 showing en route to 22 points.
Vick added 11 points for the Mustangs, shooting 3-of-4 from deep and 4-for-6 altogether. Zoe Stachowski secured a team-high seven rebounds for Cal Poly.
Cal Poly returns home next, hosting Long Beach State (11-3; 10-2) this upcoming Friday and Saturday. Each matchup vs. LBSU, slated for 2 p.m. both days, will be live-streamed for free on BigWest.TV, in addition to a radio broadcast with Zachary Anderson-Yoxsimer calling the action on GoPoly.com.
