Mustang Men Win, Women Place Second at Fresno State Invite

Gennady Sytnik broke a school record and picked up two individual wins, junior men's swimmers Andre Yarcan and Brian Wong each won two individual events, junior women's swimmers Samantha Rankin and Kaia Anderson also collected a pair of individual victories as the Cal Poly men's swimming team won the Fresno State Invite while the women's team came in second place.
Competing against Fresno Pacific University, the Mustang men's team recorded 949 points in the victory.
Competing against both Fresno State and Fresno Pacific, the Mustang women's team finished second with 918 points as Fresno State won the meet.
Sytnik broke his own school record time of 48.03 Friday in the 100-yard backstroke, winning the event with a time of 47.82 to eclipse his old record he set during last year's MPSF Championships. It is also the third-fastest time by an MPSF swimmer this year. In addition, Sytnik also had a win Saturday in the 200 back with a time of 1:49.74.
Rankin won the 400 IM and the 100 breaststroke on Friday. Her time of 4:22.42 in the 400 IM is the second-fastest in the MPSF this year and the fifth-fastest time in school history. She also had a pair of second-place finishes on Saturday in the 200 breast and 200 IM.
Anderson picked up wins in both the 1650 and 500 free. Her time in the 1650 free of 17:21.15 blew away the field and was nearly 21 seconds ahead of the second place finisher. Her winning time of 4:59.14 in the 500 free was nearly eight seconds faster than the rest of the competition. Yarcan who won both the 100 and 200 breaststroke. He won the 100 breast with a time of 56.39 and the 200 breast with a time of 2:02.95. Wong meanwhile won the 100 and 200 butterfly events. He won the 100 fly with a time of 48.72, the ninth-fastest in the MPSF this year, and the 200 fly with a time of 1:48.58, the sixth-fastest time this year in the MPSF. Other individual wins on the men's side included senior Lars Worlund in the 200 free, senior Tim Cater in the 400 IM, senior Brandon Toland in the 50 free, junior Christopher Patrick in the 500 free, senior Ryan Iannaccone in the 100 free, and sophomore Sean Keegan in the 200 IM.
Also collecting a win on the women's side was freshman Taylor Lyon in the 200 fly. In the team relays, the Mustang men's quartet of Toland, Iannaccone, Wong, and Keegan won the 200 free relay with a time of 1:21.78. The quartet of Sytnik, Yarcan, Wong, and Iannaccone won the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:18.44. Up next for the Mustangs is the Cal Baptist Mid-Season Invite in Riverside Dec. 17-18.
