Mustang Women Collect Six Wins Monday Against San Diego State

SAN DIEGO — The Cal Poly women's swimming and diving team picked up five individual wins and one team relay win during Monday's meet against San Diego State. Freshman Summer Cheng, senior Joelle Weltner, junior Kaia Anderson, junior Erin Kim, and junior Samantha Rankin each picked up a win during the meet. Cheng won the 100-yard backstroke after swimming a personal-best time of 59.71. She also finished second in the 200 IM with a time of 2:13.75. Weltner won the 1-meter dive with a score of 269.40. She also finished third in the 3-meter dive with a score of 270. Anderson took the title in the 500 free with a time of 5:19.39. She also had a second-place finish in the 1,000 free with a time of 10:45.32. Rankin won the 200 IM with a time of 2:10.59 and also had a second-place finish in the 200 breast as well as a third-place finish in the 100 breast. The Mustang quartet of sophomore Jessica Ayo, junior Amy Harter, Kim, and sophomore Lauren Gleason combined to win the 400 free relay after finishing with a time of 3:38.75. San Diego State won the meet by a score of 150-135. Meanwhile, since the Aztecs don't have a men's swimming and diving program, the Cal Poly men's team competed against each other in several events. Junior Brian Wong, junior Andre Yarcan, and senior Gennady Sytnik each won three events. Sophomore Sean Keegan and junior Ryan Iannaccone each won two events. Sophomore Kieran McNulty won one event. Wong won the 50 fly, 100 fly, and 200 fly. Yarcan took first in the 50 breast, 100 breast, and 200 breast. Sytnik won the 50 back, 100 back, and 200 back. Keegan won the 200 IM and 400 IM. Iannaccone won the 50 free and 100 free. McNulty took first in the 200 free. Cal Poly will now be off until Jan. 8 when they host CSU Bakersfield for the final home meet of the season.
