Sytnik Wins Two Individual Events Against Cal Baptist Saturday

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Senior men's swimmer Gennady Sytnik won two individual events for the second meet in a row as the Cal Poly men's and women's swimming and diving teams combined to win seven events during Saturday's dual meet against Cal Baptist University at Anderson Aquatic Center.
Just as he did last week against UCSB, Sytnik won both the 100-yard backstroke and the 200-yard backstroke events Saturday. He won the 100 back in a time of 49.27. He later won the 200 back with a time of 1:48.56, the fifth fastest time by an MPSF swimmer this season.
Also picking up individual wins on the men's side included junior swimmer Brian Wong in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:50.41 and sophomore swimmer Kieran McNulty in the 500 free with a time of 4:39.13. McNulty also came in second in the 200 free with a time of 1:41.44.
On the women's side, junior Amy Harter took first place in the 50 free with a time of 24.57. Cal Poly had the top three finishers in the 50 free with junior Sophie Jackson (24.85) and senior Avani Tantry (24.92) placing second and third. Also getting a win was junior Erin Kim in the 100 butterfly after a time of 58.15.
The Mustang women's quartet of Jackson, sophomore Lauren Gleason, sophomore Katie Faris, and Tantry collected a win in the 400-yard freestyle relay after finishing with a time of 3:35.47, the fastest time by a Cal Poly squad this season.
Other notable finishes in the meet on the women's side included junior swimmer Kaia Anderson coming in second in the 1,000 free (10:37.61), sophomore swimmer Junie Leigh Carlos placing second in both the 100 back (58.60) and the 200 back (2:06.44), junior swimmer Samantha Rankin coming in second in the 200 butterfly (2:07.90), Lauren Gleason coming in second in the 100 free (54.39), sophomore Greta Peacock's second place finish in the 500 free (5:17.12), and Sophie Jackson's second place finish in the 100 butterfly (58.49).
Other notable finishes on the men's side included senior swimmer Christopher Hogan's second place finish in the 100 breaststroke (57.48), sophomore swimmer Justin Mills' second place finish in the 50 free (21.24), junior diver Max Powell placing second in both the 1-meter dive (236.70) and the 3-meter dive (288.98), junior Ryan Iannaccone coming in second in both the 100 free (45.65) and 200 butterfly (50.69), and freshman Harrison Blake's second place finish in the 500 free (4:42.64).
Cal Baptist ended up winning the dual meet on both the men's and women's sides. The Lancer men's team won by a score of 177-121 while the Lancer women's team won 168-132.
The Cal Poly men's and women's diving teams will be back in action next weekend at the USC Diving Invite in Pasadena Nov. 12-14. The men's and women's swim teams will be off for a few weeks, returning to action Dec. 3-4 at the Fresno State Invite.
