Wong, McNulty Win Events at CSU Bakersfield Invitational

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. —Men's swimmers Brian Wong and Kieran McNulty each won an individual event on Saturday to highlight the Cal Poly men's and women's swimming teams at the CSU Bakersfield Invitational.
Cal Poly competed against swimmers from CSU Bakersfield, UC Santa Barbara, and San Jose State.
Wong took first place in the 200 yard butterfly event in a time of 1:50.43. Wong also helped the Mustangs men's 400 yard freestyle relay team place third in the event after a time of 3:07.12. Wong anchored the team also consisting of Christopher Hogan, Ryan Iannaccone, and Gennady Sytnik.
The Cal Poly men also finished second in the 400 medley relay. The team of Sytnik, Andre Yarcan, Garrison Price, and Iannaccone finished the event with a time of 3:22.33.
McNulty, who won the 1,000 yard free during Friday's CSU Bakersfield Sprint Meet, won the 500 free Saturday in a time of 4:31.60 which was nearly a full nine second ahead of the second place finisher. McNulty also finished fifth in the 200 free, swimming it in a time of 1:42.08.
Notable swims on the women's side included Samantha Rankin and Kaia Anderson placing third and fourth in the 400 IM with times of 4:33.90 and 4:36.60. Anderson also placed fourth in the 500 free with a time of 5:09.76. Junie Leih Carlos came in fourth in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:06.39.
Other notable men's swims on the day included Ryan Iannaccone placing second in the 50 free with a time of 21.04. Iannaccone also came in third place in the 100 free with a time of 46.32. Gennady Sytnik finished third in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:52.40, Garrison Price placed fourth in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:54.29, Andre Yarcan finished fourth in the 200 breast with a time of 2:09.05, and Sean Keegan came in fifth in the 400 IM with a time of 4:08.96.
Overall, the Cal Poly men's team finished the meet tied for second place with 374 while the women's team finished fourth with 194 points.
Both of the men's and women's swimming and diving teams will next be in action on Saturday, Oct. 30 when the Mustangs host rival UC Santa Barbara at Anderson Aquatic Center at 11 a.m.
