Trio of Freshmen Lead Cal Poly to 10th Place in OSU Invitational

FINAL RESULTS
CORVALLIS, Oregon -- Freshman Baron Szeto carded a 69 as the Cal Poly men's golf team climbed one spot into 10th place during the final round of the Oregon State Invitational on Tuesday.
At the Trysting Tree Golf Club, Szeto produced four birdies and a pair of bogeys on the 7,384-yard, par-71 course, earning his first collegiate top-20 finish.
Szeto placed 18th with five other golfers, all with four-over-par 217 totals for 54 holes.
Two other Mustang freshmen placed in the top 50 with Drew Kim finishing tied for 30th place and Parker Mapes placing 50th with five other golfers.
Kim carded a final-round 74 for a 219 total while Mapes, playing in his first collegiate tournament, posted a 74 as well for a 226 aggregate.
Cal Poly posted a final-round four-person 293 total for a 35-over-par 887 total.,
Washington led from wire to wire for the team title, finishing with a 14-under-par 838 total and 11 shots ahead of runner-up Boise State. Utah was another six strokes back in third place.
Leading the Huskies to the crown was RJ Manke with a four-stroke victory over Hugo Townsend of Boise State. Manke recorded rounds of 67, 70 and 67 for a nine-under-par 204 total while Townsend finished at 208 with rounds of 69, 68 and 71. Tristan Mandur of Utah was third at 209.
Behind Cal Poly's three freshmen in the top 50 were sophomore Austin Liu with a final-round 76 for a 230 total and 70th place, and Joey Zambri, also a sophomore, with a 79 for a 231 aggregate and 73rd place.
Kim finished tied for eighth in birdies with 11 while Mapes was eighth and Szeto 10th in pars with 38 and 37 respectively.
Cal Poly wraps up its fall season Oct. 25-26 at the Hoakalei Country Club Invitational in Ewa Beach, Oahu, Hawai'i.
