
84 Cal Poly Student-Athletes Earn Big West All-Academic Praise

SAN LUIS OBISPO – A total of 84 Cal Poly student-athletes across 11 programs – an increase of 19 selections from last summer – earned Big West Conference Winter and Spring All-Academic recognition on Wednesday afternoon.
To be eligible for Big West All-Academic recognition, student-athletes must have maintained at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA, have attained a sophomore standing academically and competed in a minimum 50 percent of the program's games or meets.

The Cal Poly women's basketball program, which reached the semifinals of the 2020 Big West Tournament before the competition was halted due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, featured seven honorees – 41 percent of its roster from the 2019-20 season. The men's basketball program, meanwhile, enjoyed the inclusion of sophomore forward Tuukka Jaakkola.
For the seventh time under 15th-year head coach Jenny Condon, Cal Poly's softball program enjoyed at least six selections. Since 2013, Cal Poly's softball program has averaged five all-academic selections per season.
Cal Poly's baseball program, meanwhile, saw junior outfielder Cole Cabrera named to the all-academic honor roll.
The Cal Poly beach volleyball program, off to a 7-2 start and ranked No. 5 nationally in the AVCA poll when the season was suspended in mid-March, featured six Big West All-Academic selections.
The Mustang men's track and field team earned the most selections of any program in any winter or spring sport with 27 athletes represented.
On the women's track and field side, Cal Poly also led all nine member programs with 26 individual selections.
Cal Poly's men's tennis team took home five selections – 42 percent of its 12-member roster. The Mustang women's tennis program added a further three selections.
Cal Poly's golf programs each enjoyed one selection apiece with Elizabeth Scholtes named from the women's team and fellow sophomore William Draper recognized from the men's squad.
