
No. 7 Mustangs Split a Pair of Matches Saturday in Malibu

MALIBU, Calif. — The Cal Poly beach volleyball program split a pair of matches Saturday at the Pepperdine Invitational in Malibu, falling to the No. 5 Waves (18-7) 4-1 before taking down No. 12 Cal (17-7) 3-2.
With the split, the No. 7 Mustangs (19-8) have won 16 of their last 19 matches.
Against No. 5 Pepperdine, Cal Poly picked up a win from its No. 5 pairing of freshman Delaney Peranich and senior Samantha Manley. The duo beat the Waves' Simone Priebe and Katie Gavin 21-13, 21-19. They are now 6-4 as a pair this season. The loss to the Waves was the second this season after Pepperdine beat the Mustangs back in March.
Cal Poly had better luck in its second match of the day against the No. 12 Golden Bears. The Mustangs started with a 21-15, 21-15 win at the No. 1 spot by senior Crissy Jones and sophomore Tiadora Miric. They improve their record as a pair to a team-best 16-5 this season.
The No. 2 pairing of sophomore Macy Gordon and junior Emily Sonny followed soon after with a 21-13, 21-17 victory. They are now 9-2 as a duo this season.
Freshman Vanessa Roscoe and junior Brayden Gruenewald then won their match at the No. 4 position 23-21, 14-21, 15-13 to clinch the match for Cal Poly. They are now 10-9 as a pair this season.
The Mustangs have four more regular season matches remaining, all next week. They will travel to Los Angeles next Thursday, April 18 to face No. 2 USC and No. 15 Grand Canyon. They then go to Palo Alto to face No. 20 Stanford and No. 12 Cal once again.
