
Fresno State Holds On to Defeat Cal Poly Wrestlers, 29-13

FRESNO, Calif. — Falls in the final two bouts lifted Fresno State to a 29-13 victory over Cal Poly on Thursday night in the first dual wrestling meet between the two Central California rivals in 12 years.
Bringing the program back after an 11-year hiatus, the Bulldogs led 17-13 after eight bouts with two major decisions and three decisions before Josh Hokit at 197 pounds and AJ Nevills at 285 scored wins by fall to clinch the dual meet.
Cal Poly wrestlers won three of the 10 bouts.
At 141, Colton Schilling (pictured above) erased a 6-0 team deficit with a fall in just 30 seconds after scoring an early takedown.
Fresno State won the next three bouts before Matt Wilhelm and Sohrab Movahedi scored wins to get Cal Poly back into the match.
Wilhelm earned a 17-6 major decision at 174 pounds with six takedowns and a two-point near fall while Movahedi earned an 8-2 decision at 184 with three takedowns, an escape and riding time.
Cal Poly falls to 0-2 with the loss and will wrestle against Penn on Sunday at noon at Stanford.
