
Binns Finishes in Top 25; Cal Poly Places 14th in Stanford Intercollegiate

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. — Cal Poly's women's golf team carded a final-round four-person 303 total and settled for 14th place in the 22nd Stanford Intercollegiate on Wednesday at the Poppy Hills Golf Course on the 17-Mile Drive.
Coach Sofie Aagaard's Mustangs posted a three-day 56-over-par 908 total on the 6,069-yard, par-71 layout, edging Georgia by 11 strokes for the penultimate spot on the leaderboard.
Senior Jamie Binns earned a top-25 finish with a final-round 78 for a nine-over-par 222 aggregate, finishing in a five-way tie for 23rd place.
Desiree Gillaspy carded a final-round 75 for a 227 total and 46th place while Sophie Bergland placed 52nd with a 76 for a 229 total.
Completing Cal Poly's scoring were Jamie Harada (pictured above) with a 74 for a 230 total and 56th place, and Meridith Hirsch with an 81 for a 250 total and 72nd place.
UCLA overtook host Stanford for the team title. The Bruins posted a nine-under-par 275 total Wednesday, 10 shots better than Stanford, and beat the Cardinal by three strokes, 849-852. Northwestern was third at 865.
Individual medalist honors were shared by Andrea Lee of Stanford and Patty Tavatanakit of UCLA, each with six-under-par 207 totals after both recorded final-round 67s. Hannah Kim of Northwestern, who led after the first and second rounds, shot 72 Wednesday and slipped into third place, one shot back.
The Mustangs play their final fall tournament of the 2017-18 season by hosting the Cal Poly Invitational on Oct. 28-29 at the Cypress Ridge Golf Course in Arroyo Grande.
