Mustang Volleyball Wins Sixth Consecutive Match

SAN LUIS OBISPO- The Cal Poly volleyball team picked up its sixth consecutive win Friday night, as they beat Cal State Northridge 3-1 in Mott Athletics Center, advancing to 13-6 overall and 6-2 in conference play.
The Matadors scored the first point in set two, which was their only lead of the set; the Mustangs tied the score up at 1-1 and proceeded to lead the rest of the set.
Junior Raeann Greisen led set two in kills with five, while the team put up a .256 attack percentage for that set.
Set three was neck and neck for the Mustangs, as they tied the score 11 times and had four different lead changes.
Cal Poly had seven blocks in set three compared to CSUN's one, while having a .121 attack percentage.
Ahead 2-1, the Mustangs quickly beat the Matadors in set four. Although CSUN tied the score up four times, Cal Poly never let them have the lead. Greisen led the team in kills in set four with 10 and had a .714 attack percentage.
Three Mustangs boasted double digits throughout the match, including Greisen with 20, senior Taylor Gruenewald with 14 and sophomore Adlee Van Winden with 12.
The Mustangs had an overall .295 attack percentage compared to the Matadors .219.
Gruenewald, Van Winden, Clewis and Niemen led the team in blocks, contributing three each of the team's overall nine.
Junior Taylor Nelson led the team in assists, with 49, while junior Katherine Brouker led the team in digs with 16.
The Mustangs will be back in action tomorrow, Saturday Oct. 22 to take on the No.1 team in the conference, Long Beach State at 7 p.m. in Mott Athletics Center.
