FRESNO, Calif. — The Cal Poly cross country teams swept the Fresno State Invitational on Friday morning at Woodward Park, as the men's squad put together a victorious score of 33 (led by the individual champion, junior Swarnjit Boyal), before the women won with 37 points (paced by the third-place finisher, fellow junior Ashley Windsor).
Beginning with the men's 6K race, Boyal outran a pair of San Jose State competitors by a nearly 20-second gap, taking first among all 55 student-athletes in 18:08.9 (equating to an average mile of 4:52.1).
It was the second consecutive meet in which Boyal led the team, following his season-opening runner-up performance at the Lagoon Open in Santa Barbara on Sept. 5.
Also for the Mustangs, senior Al Gamez Jr. was fourth, with a time of 18:31.3, joined in the top five by redshirt freshman Garrett Migliozzi, who was only two-tenths of a second back.
Fellow redshirt freshman Devon Grove also added a top-10 showing, recording an eighth-place 18:34.0. David Galvez, a junior, rounded out the scoring with a 15th-place 18:38.9.
In all, they helped Cal Poly top six contingents: Stanford (46), San Jose State (64), Sacramento State (114), Fresno State (117), Cal State Stanislaus (181) and Cal State East Bay (194).
