CORVALLIS, Oregon — Decisions by Travis Berridge and Dominic Kastl closed the gap to 15-10, but Oregon State won the final three matches for a 26-10 victory over Cal Poly in a Pac-12 dual wrestling meet Saturday night in Gill Coliseum.
Mustang 141-pounder Colton Schilling (pictured at right) earned a 12-4 major decision, Berridge scored a 6-5 decision and Kastl was a 12-8 winner in overtime as Cal Poly pulled to within five points of the unbeaten Beavers.
But Oregon State tallied a pair of major decisions and a decision in the final three bouts to earn its 10th victory without a loss this season.
Cal Poly, coming off a come-from-behind 22-15 win at Boise State on Thursday, fell to 2-14.
Schilling improved to 20-8 with his major decision over Devin Reynolds, scoring an escape, takedown and three-point near-fall for a 6-1 first-period lead. Reynolds chose the neutral position in a scoreless second period and Schilling put the match away with two escapes, a takedown and two-point near-fall in the final period.
Berridge is 15-13 for the year following his one-point win over Seth Thomas at 165 pounds. Berridge tallied an escape and takedown to overcome a 4-3 deficit in the third period and held on for the win.
Kastl raised his record for the season to 12-6. The 174-pound match was tied at 3-3 after one period and 5-5 after two periods. In the third, Joe Latham earned an escape, Kastl notched a takedown and Latham scored a reversal for an 8-7 lead, but Kastl had more than a minute in riding time to tie the match at 8-8, forcing overtime.
Kastl recorded a takedown and two-point near-fall for the 12-8 victory.
In two other close matches, Mustang 133-pounder Jason DelaCruz gave up an escape in the second period and could not get out of the grasp of Jack Hathaway in the final period in a 1-0 decision while Mustang heavyweight Nicolas Johnson extended Nate Keeve into overtime before falling 6-3 on a takedown late in the third extra period.
Cal Poly remains on the road for its final two dual meets of the season, visiting Grand Canyon a week from Sunday and Arizona State on Monday, Feb. 16.
