Cal Poly Women's Volleyball Falls to Utah in Three Games

MORAGA, Calif. – Cal Poly had small leads in each game, but Utah rallied to keep its record unblemished as the Utes earned a three-game sweep in a non-conference women's volleyball match Saturday at McKeon Pavilion on the Saint Mary's campus.
The Utes won by scores of 25-12, 25-15 and 25-21. Cal Poly falls to 1-3 while Utah improves to 4-0.
Coach Sam Crosson's Mustangs hit .041 for the match while Utah hit at a .267 percentage.
Savannah Niemen led Cal Poly offensively with seven kills. Raeann Greissen added five kills while Bailey Roach contributed nine digs.
Utah's Chelsey Schofield tallied a match-high nine kills.
The Mustangs held several small leads in the first game, the last at 6-5. Utah slowly built a 13-10 advantage, then reeled off 10 unanswered points for a 23-10 lead and went on to win 25-12.
In the second game, Cal Poly led 2-0 and 3-2 before Utah gained the upper hand and gradually pulled away, clinching the 25-15 victory by scoring the final four points.
The Mustangs led 1-0 and 2-1 leads in the third game and pulled to within 22-21 on a Utah attack error before the Utes scored the final three points to wrap up the sweep.
Cal Poly will play at Saint Mary's on Sunday at 2 p.m.
