Cal Poly Four Strokes Off the Pace in Santa Clara Colby Invitational

SAN JOSE, Calif. — Jamie Binns, Madison Hirsch and Sophie Bergland of Cal Poly all finished in the top 10 after 36 holes of play in the Santa Clara Colby Invitational on Monday at the Silver Creek Valley Country Club.
Binns (pictured at right) is tied for second place with Brittani Ferraro of UC Riverside with five-over-par 149 totals on the 6,146-yard, par-72 course. Binns carded rounds of 73 and 76.
Hirsch is tied for sixth place with two other golfers, all with 152 totals. Hirsch posted a 74 and 78.
Bergland is in ninth place alone following rounds of 79 and 77 for a 156 total.
As a team, Cal Poly is second with a 42-over-par 618 total. UC Riverside leads with a 614 total and CSUN is third at 622.
Individual leader after 36 holes is Annie Freman of Santa Clara with a 148 total.
Cal Poly's other two scoring golfers were Jamie Corr with a 79 and 82 for a 161 total and 18th place, and Desiree Gillaspy with a 79 and 83 for a 162 total and 22nd place.
Competing as individuals, Helen Davis is in 15th place with an 83 and 77 for a 160 total while Meridith Hirsch is in 35th place following rounds of 86 and 83.
Final round will be held Tuesday morning.
