CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Cal Poly women's soccer team outshot Oregon State on Friday night 16-14, including a 9-6 shots-on-goal advantage, but Jenna Richardson came off the bench to score twice, leading the Beavers to a 3-0 home win at Paul Lorenz Field.
Richardson, a senior forward, tallied the game-winner in the 41st minute on an assist by Natalie Meiggs.
The Mustangs (4-3-0) nearly found the equalizer in the 44th minute, when a shot by freshman forward Megan Abutin hit the crossbar.
Six minutes after halftime, though, Richardson posted another score, this time capitalizing on a cross from Val Margerum. Meiggs chalked up her second assist of the evening in the 73rd minute when she found Erin Uchacz to create a 3-0 lead.
Cal Poly sophomore forward Elise Krieghoff, who came into the weekend leading the country in goals per match (1.67), fired six shots against the Pac-12 opponent, including two on goal.
Abutin also finished with two shots on goal. Teammates Haley Walker, Cristina Farrington, Lydia Anderson, Kendra Bonsall and Sara Epps all placed one shot each on frame, as well. Cal Poly also lined up four corner kicks to Oregon State's two.
Cal Poly sophomore Alyssa Giannetti, who entered the week leading the Big West Conference in saves, with 32 during the opening six games of the season, made three on Friday.
Oregon State goalkeeper Sammy Jo Prudhomme made all nine saves in the victory.
The Beavers (2-6-1) now trail the all-time series against the Mustangs 3-2-0.
Cal Poly will continue its season-long six-match road trip by heading to Seattle for a match against the Redhawks (3-2-2) on Championship Field at noon Sunday.
