
Cal Poly Stays Unbeaten With 4-0 Win Over Sacramento State

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – The Cal Poly women's soccer team stayed unbeaten on the young season Friday night with a 4-0 nonconference win over Sacramento State at the Cal Poly Sports Complex.
After a pair of scoring opportunities in the opening 15 minutes, the Mustangs (3-0-0) broke through in the 25th minute, when freshman midfielder Lydia Anderson assisted senior midfielder Haley Walker with a cross.
Cal Poly went up 2-0 in the 32nd minute when sophomore forward Elise Krieghoff put a chip into the net off an assist by senior defender Cristina Farrington.
In the second half, true freshman forward Megan Abutin scored on a turnaround from about 15 yards out, off of a pass by sophomore forward Sara Epps, providing a 3-0 advantage in the 49th minute.
Krieghoff tallied her second goal of the night in the 53rd minute, lofting a shot beyond the reach of the goalkeeper as senior midfielder Jordyn Zander recorded an assist.
Krieghoff, who increased her season goal total to seven, came into the match tied for the Division I scoring lead with five goals through two matches. She was named the Big West Conference Offensive Player of the Week and was also named to TopDrawerSoccer.com's national 11-player Team of the Week following Sunday night's 5-2 win at CSU Bakersfield.
Sophomore goalkeeper Alyssa Giannetti (right) made three saves for the Mustangs before junior Megan Heddinger entered the match in the 60th minute and staved off two more shots on goal the rest of the way.
Junior Kimberly Mata made 12 saves for the Hornets (0-2-0).
Cal Poly will host San Jose State at 7 p.m. Sept. 6.
