Cal Poly Finishes 14th in Fresno State Lexus Classic

FRESNO, Calif. – Kirsten Locke shot a final-round 74 and finished tied for 12th place with five other golfers, leading Cal Poly to a 14th-place team finish Tuesday in the Fresno State Lexus Classic women's golf tournament at the Copper River Country Club.
Locke (pictured at right), who posted rounds of 74 and 77 Monday, finished with a nine-over-par 225 total on the 6,212-yard, par-72 course, moving up four positions in the final round.
Simone Hoey of Long Beach State carded a final-round 70 and captured the individual title by four strokes over Luciane Lee of UC Irvine. Hoey finished with a five-under-par 211 total while Lee posted a 74 Tuesday for a one-under-par 215 aggregate. Sammi Stevens of New Mexico was third at 218.
Cal Poly finished with a four-person 54-hole 71-over-par 935 total, tied for 14th place with Colorado State. Coach Scott Cartwright's Mustangs carded a 313 total Tuesday.
Hoey led Long Beach State to the team title. The 49ers posted a 295 total to overcome Tulsa, which carded a 299 and finished one stroke behind Long Beach State, 892-893. San Jose State was third at 896.
In addition to Locke, Cal Poly's other golfers were Asia Adell with a 75 for a 231 total and 38th place, Taylor Yoshitake with an 80 for a 238 total and 60th place, Morgan Thomas with an 84 for a 242 total and 69th place, and Alex Phillips with an 886 for a 248 total and 76th place.
Cal Poly will host the Big West Conference Championship at the San Luis Obispo Golf and Country Club. The three-day event begins Sunday.
