Mustang 149-Pounder Blake Kastl Places Eighth at Las Vegas Invitational

LAS VEGAS, Nevada -- Cal Poly redshirt freshman 149-pounder Blake Kastl placed eighth on the final day of competition in the 2013 Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational on Saturday at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
After winning two of three matches Friday, Kastl (pictured at right) earned a 4-2 decision over Natrelle Demison of Air Force in the fourth round of wrestlebacks. He then dropped a 4-2 decision to Scott Sakaguchi of Oregon State and lost by medical default to Brian Hamaan of North Carolina State.
Mustang 157-pounder Maxamillian Schneider, who also reached the quarterfinal round Friday before suffering his first loss, was eliminated from the tournament as he defaulted to Robert Burg of Navy in the fourth round of wrestlebacks.
Cal Poly 133-pounder Devon Lotito, who placed third in the tournament a year ago, dropped a 6-4 decision to Colton Rasche of Navy in the fourth round of wrestlebacks Saturday.
Seven other Mustang wrestlers were eliminated Friday.
Cal Poly finished 24th in the 33-team field with 21 points. Oklahoma won with 154.5 points, followed by Nebraska with 130.5 and Ohio State with 119.5points.
Cal Poly wrestling, presented by Meathead Movers, returns to action Dec. 16 with a non-conference dual meet at Cal Baptist, starting at 6 p.m.
