
Mustangs Drop 3-0 Decision to LSU at Texas Tournament

Cal Poly will return to action on Thursday, Aug. 30 when the team will open the home season with Idaho at 5 pm in Mott Gym.
The Mustangs were led by senior Molly Pon with eight kills while Holly Franks added six kills. Megan McConnell and Marianne Gera each helped out with four kills each.
True freshman Nicole Kessler recorded 11 digs to lead the team. Junior transfer Steffi Sooter added eight digs and Pon seven. Junior Chelsea Hardin was credited with two solo blocks.
Cal Poly as a team hit .124 for the match with 28 kills on 97 swings with 16 errors. The Mustangs had 39 digs as a team with six total blocks. LSU hit .239 with 50 digs and 14 total blocks.
Earlier in the day, Cal Poly lost to No. 2 Texas in three sets. Set scores were 25-17, 25-16 and 25-20.
The Mustangs were paced by Franks with eight kills while sophomore transfer Megan Groess came off the bench to spark the team with seven kills on 16 swings. Pon added six kills while freshman Nicole Kessler led the team with 12 digs. McConnell tallied two kills with three blocks with junior Kate Walters dishing out 27 assists with nine digs.
Overall Texas hit .305 in the win and held the Mustangs to a .008 hitting percentage.
