
Sisler Wins Long Jump at Big West Championships

IRVINE, Calif. – Senior Whitney Sisler won the women's long jump while the women's team is in sixth with 21 points after the first day of competition of the Big West Conference Track and Field Championships in Irvine on Friday. The Cal Poly men's team is fifth with 30 points. UC Santa Barbara leads the men's competition after the first day with 105 points while the UCSB women's team leads with 73 points.
Sisler secured 10 points for the Cal Poly women's team when she recorded a career-best of 19-feet, 6.75 inches in winning the long jump at the Big West Conference Track and Field Championships.
In the javelin, sophomore Rebecca Halvorson tallied two points with her seventh place finish and a throw of 125-feet, 11-inches while freshman Calynn Stanford recorded a one point for the Mustangs with a throw of 123-feet, 8-inches.
In the 3000 meter steeplechase freshman Ericka Schaeffer recorded two points with her seventh place finish and a time of 10:57.55. Jessica Barnard of Long Beach State won the steeplechase in a meet record 10:22.90.
In the 1500 two Mustangs qualified for Saturday finals, Sara Van Dyke and Vanessa Hancock with times of 4:32.71 and 4:39.27 respectively.
In the 800 freshman Jenna Davis won her heat in a time of 2:13.20 while Hannah Edwards adnLia Rivers-Birt qualified with times of 2:11.45 and 2:11.47 respectively.
On the men's side senior Brandon Shirck and sophomore Blake Ahrold secured nine points for the men's team in the 3000 meter steeplechase. Shirck placed third with a time of 9:09.61 (six points) with Ahrold holding down sixth with a time of 9:11.71 (three points).
In the 10,000 meter a trio of Mustangs scored 15 points for the men's team. Sophomore Chris Frias finished second with a time of 31:34.80 while sophomore Sean Davidson finished fifth with a time of 31:39.86 with freshman Michael Johnson in sixth with a time of 31:39.86.
In the shot put senior Daniel Erdman placed fifth with a mark of 56-feet, 8-inches, good for four points for the men's team.
Senior Eric Surprenant qualified for two events on Saturday when he was the number one qualifier in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 52.00. Sophomore David Namnath was the fifth qualifier with a time of 52.78.
Suprenant qualified in his second event in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 14.69.
Sophomore Jamison Jordan was the number two qualifier in the 100 meter dash when he won his heat with a season-best time of 10.60. Teammate Antwaine Miller failed to qualify with a time of 11.04.
Jordan earned his second finals qualification in the 200 meters when he finished with a third-best time and season-best of 21.75.
The Mustangs had a pair of qualifiers in the 800 when sophomore John Guerrero was the fourth qualifier with a time of 1:51.66 with junior Aric Champagne seventh with a time of 1:51.83.
