
Cal Poly Women's Soccer Advances to Big West Tournament

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif.- The Cal Poly women's soccer team beat UC Santa Barbara 1-0 at home today. With the win, the Mustangs advance to the Big West Conference Tournament.
Before the game, in their final home match, four Cal Poly seniors were honored for their years of hard work including: Jessie Duller, Cici Kobinski, Julie McKee and Shandon Rovetta.
Cal Poly and UC Santa Barbara were tied at the half with Cal Poly taking 9 shots to UCSB's 6 shots. But in the 72 minute, Sara Epps was able to make an impressive play and passed the ball Elise Krieghoff, who buried the ball in the net. For freshman, Krieghoff, this marks 11 goals on the season and she is tied for fifth place for all time most goals in a single season. Senior Cici Kobinski is in the record books tied for fourth place with most assists in a single season.
The Mustangs took a total of 17 shots to the Gauchos 13 shots. Freshman goalkeeper, Alyssa Giannetti made 5 saves on the day with UCSB's goalkeeper, Makenna Henry, making seven saves.
The Big West Conference Tournament will take place at UC Irvine this year. Cal Poly now enters the tournament in third place behind first place, Cal State Fullerton and second place Cal State Northridge. UC Irvine enters the tournament as the fourth and final seed. On November 1, Cal Poly will play Cal State Northridge. When the two teams met earlier in the season, the teams tied, 2-2. Cal State Fullerton will then play UC Irvine. The final two teams will face off November 4.
