Locke Sparks Cal Poly to Seventh-Place Finish in Colby Invitational

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Senior Kirsten Locke fired another 74 and finished fifth in the Santa Clara Colby Invitational on Tuesday at the Silver Creek Valley Country Club.
Locke's performance helped the Cal Poly women's golf team claim seventh place in the 11-team, 36-hole tournament played on the 6,224-yard par-72 course.
Locke (pictured at right) finished six strokes behind individual winner Jenna Hague of Ball State (72-70--142), who was victorious by three strokes over Lauren Kuss of IUPUI. Clariss Guce of Cal State Northridge finished third, four strokes off the pace.
Locke was Cal Poly's lone top-20 finisher.
Morgan Thomas finished in a tie for 30th place with rounds of 79 and 80 while Alex Phillips was another stroke back with rounds of 80 and 80 for a 32nd-place tie.
Madison Hirsch finished tied for 43rd place with rounds of 80 and 84 while Asia Adell posted an 83 and 82 for a 165 total and a 47th-place tie.
Competing as an individual, Laura Howard was tied for 40th place with rounds of 79 and 84. Giovanna Ascolani was disqualified after carding an 81 Monday.
Ball State claimed the team title with a 302 and 302 for a 605 total, four strokes ahead of IUPUI. Santa Clara edged UC Riverside 615-616 for third place.
Cal Poly returns to action next Monday and Tuesday, hosting the Cal Poly Invitational at Cypress Ridge Golf Course in Arroyo Grande.
