
Cal Poly Suffers First Conference Loss of the Season

FULLERTON, Calif.- The Cal Poly women's soccer team suffered its first conference loss of the season 4-0 against Cal State Fullerton. Cal Poly remains in first place in the Big West Conference with its 17 points on the season and 5-1-2 record. The top four teams advance to the Big West Championships.
Cal State Fullerton controlled the match early on. Corner kicks and a penalty kick proved to be the Mustangs undoing. Three of the Titan's four goals came off corner kicks and a penalty kick. The first goal came in the 34th minute when Stacey Fox sunk a header on the left side off a corner kick. The game would stay 1-0 at the end of the first half.
In the 46th minute, Cal State Fullerton was given a penalty kick after a Fullerton player was pushed on a rebound attempt. The next goal would not happen until the 77th minute off a corner kick. Ann Marie Tangorra would get the header, but she wasn't done. Tangorra scored again in the 87th minute off a short pass from Brianna Chapman.
The Mustangs took nine shots to the Titans 24 shots. Goalkeeper Alyssa Giannetti made 11 saves to a four saves made by Lindsey Maricic. Fullerton had nine corner kicks and Cal Poly had two on the day.
The Mustangs will be back at home next as they face UC Santa Barbara on October 28th.
