
No. 19 Cal Poly Wrestling Team Falls to No. 6 Wyoming 26-9

LARAMIE, Wyoming – Boris Novachkov and Ryan DesRoches maintained their national rankings with victories, but No. 19 Cal Poly dropped a 26-9 decision to No. 6 Wyoming in a non-conference dual wrestling meet Friday night.
The loss dropped Coach Brendan Buckley's Mustangs to 4-4 on the year. Wyoming, which won seven of the 10 bouts, improved to 3-2.
Novackov lifted his record to 22-2 with a 6-2 decision over Chase Smith at 141 pounds while DesRoches rebounded from his first loss of the season with a 6-1 decision over Patrick Martinez at 174.
Novachkov and DesRoches (pictured at right), who is now 20-1 following his win over No. 21 Martinez, both are ranked No. 4 by InterMat this week.
Cal Poly's only other winner was 285-pounder Kelan Bragg with an 11-7 decision over Leland Pfeifer in the final bout of the dual meet.
Wyoming featured six nationally ranked wrestlers in its lineup, including No. 1 Joe LeBlanc at 184. LeBlanc moved up to 197 Friday night and earned a 12-1 major decision over Cal Poly's Ryan Smith.
Smith, ranked No. 17 this week, had a four-match winning streak snapped and fell to 16-9 on the year.
Wyoming also received major decisions from 125-pounder Michael Martinez and 133-pounder Zach Zehner and a technical fall by Shane Onufer at 165, ranked No. 3 by InterMat.
Wyoming beat Cal Poly for the first time in five tries.
Cal Poly wrestles at Air Force on Saturday. The Falcons are 4-3 on the year after defeating Utah Valley 26-15 on Friday night.
