Mustangs Win Third Straight, Defeat Nevada 4-1

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – The Cal Poly women's soccer team used three second half goals to pull away from the Nevada Wolf Pack and win 4-1 in a non-conference soccer game on Friday at Alex G. Spanos Stadium.

With the win the Mustangs improve to 6-3 and will return to the field on Sunday at 1 pm when they take on No. 9 Pepperdine at Spanos Stadium. Nevada falls to 1-7 on the year.

Sophomore Cristina Farrington scored her third goal of the season in the 40^th minute when Kacey Held fed her the ball and Farrington fired her shot from 20 yards out from the right side into the left side of the net.

Nevada tied it in the 43^rd minute when Madison Lorenzen scored her first goal of the season when off a corner kick, on the right side, the ball bounded off Cal Poly goalie Brooke Gauvin's fist and into the corner of the net.

The team's went into the break tied 1-1.

Early in the second half senior Shandon Rovetta scored her first goal of the season when Julie Mckee placed her corner kick to the right corner of the box. McKenzie Orand then defected the ball for a point blank shot fro Rovetta.

The Mustangs added two goals late in the game, the first when freshman Sara Lancaster scored her fifth goal of the season when Jenny Haggarty fed her the ball on a long cross and fired a shot from the right side into the right side of net.

The final goal came when Tiffany Gummow scored her fourth goal, third in two games, on a long shot from 35 yards out after Jordyn Zander flicked the ball to her.

Overall the Mustangs outshot the Wolf Pack 12-10, but the Mustangs put eight shots on goal compared to three for the Pack.

Gauvin was credited with the win and improved to 6-3 with two saves. Jenna Riddle took the loss and falls to 1-5.
