BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Cal State Bakersfield scored twice in the first inning and held on for a 3-1 victory over Cal Poly in the opener of a non-conference baseball series Friday night at Hardt Field.
The win improved Cal State Bakersfield's record to 31-22 and was the Runners' second in eight tries against the Mustangs. Cal State Bakersfield is fielding a baseball team for the third year.
Cal Poly fell to 27-24. The Mustangs had won six of their last seven games.
Cal Poly failed to collect more than one hit in an inning, mustering just five overall.
The Mustangs scored their lone run in the sixth inning. Evan Busby drew a leadoff walk, DJ Gentile singled to advance Busby to third and Mitch Haniger's sacrifice fly to center field scored Busby.
