
UCR Downs Mustangs, 78-70

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The UC Riverside Highlanders handed the Cal Poly women's basketball team their second defeat in a row with a 78-70 win in Riverside on Saturday. With the loss the Mustangs fall to 14-10 overall and 10-3 in conference play while the Highlanders improve to 14-11 and 7-5.
The Mustangs maintain a one game lead over UC Santa Barbara 9-4 for the regular season championship with UC Riverside and UC Davis two and ½ games back at 7-5.
Senior Rachel Clancy fell two points short of her career-high when she scored 29 points to lead the team. Junior Abby Bloetscher added 13 points with a team-high nine rebounds.
Clancy's points came when she hit 10 of 15 shots from the floor including five of six from beyond the arc. Bloetscher was five of nine from the floor and hit all three shots from the line
UCR was led by Rhaya Neabors with 23 points with TreShont Nottingham adding 15 and Brittany Waddell 13.
Cal Poly shot 39 percent from the floor and made six of 12 from long range while making 20 of 25 from the line.
The hot handed Highlanders shot 53 percent from the floor, but made only five of 17 (29 percent) from beyond the arc. UCR converted 13 of 18 from the line.
Cal Poly held a 33-31 edge in rebounding while committing one more turnover, 17-16.
Riverside held a 37-33 advantage at he break and outscored the Mustangs 41-37 in the final period.
