
Second Half Goals Lead Women's Soccer to Win

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – A goal in the 66th minute of play led the Mustangs to a 2-0 win over Cal State Northridge in a Big West Conference game on Friday in Northridge. With the win Cal Poly improves to 8-5-1 overall and 2-1-0 in conference play while CSUN falls to 3-7-2 and 1-1-1 in BWC games.
Cici Kobinski's second goal of the season off a flick pass from Mckenzie Orand gave the Mustangs the lead they would not relinquish.
In the final minute of the game, Cal State Northridge pulled its goalie for a free kick, but Sara Lancaster slipped in a stole the ball for an open net goal for her sixth goal of the year.
Cal State Northridge held a 15-11 advantage in shots, and a 7-6 advantage on shots on goal.
But it was goalie Brooke Gauvin who came up big for the Mustangs shutting down the Matador attack with seven saves.
The Mustangs were whistled for 15 fouls compared to seven for CSUN with Cal Poly holding a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.
The Mustangs will travel to UC Irvine for a game on Sunday at 1 pm.
