
San Diego State Defeats Cal Poly in Women's Dual Swim Meet, 180-112

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – Cal Poly won three of the final four events, but fell 180-112 to San Diego State in a modified 16-event dual meet Saturday morning at the Anderson Aquatic Center.
Amy Morales won the 50 butterfly in 26.43 seconds, Chrissy Thomas placed first in the 100 individual medley (1:01.58) and the Mustangs also claimed the 400 freestyle relay as Andrea Voigt, Katrina Anderson, Kelsey Engel and Rachel Cleak turned in a time of 3:38.68.
But San Diego State won the remaining 13 events to claim the dual meet victory.
Cal Poly's Angie Haven placed second in the 50 breaststroke (31.37) and 100 breaststroke (1:07.26) and swam a leg on the second-place Mustang 200 medley relay team (1:46.31).
Lacey Buck (pictured at right) finished second in the 1,650 freestyle (17:12.54)and third in the 500 freestyle (5:03.92) while Gloria Benefield placed second in the 100 backstroke (57.78). Benefield also swam a leg on the medley relay team.
Morales posted thirds in the 50 backstroke (27.49) and 50 freestyle (25.23) while Jill Jones was second in the 50 freestyle (25.15) and fourth in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.44). Both also swam on the medley relay team.
Cal Poly will host Denver next Saturday at the Anderson Aquatic Center for 10 a.m. dual men's and women's swimming and diving meets.
