
Cal Poly falls to Arizona State, 69-58

TEMPE, AZ. – Senior Rachel Clancy recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, but it would not be enough as the ArizonaState women's basketball team defeated the Mustangs 69-58 in a non-conference women's basketball game in the first round of the Arizona State Classic in Tempe, AZ on Friday.
With the loss the Mustangs fall to 2-3 overall while the Sun Devils improve to 4-2.
Clancy recorded a season-high 10 rebounds as Caroline Reeves scored a career-high 14 points, hittingt six of nine shots from the floor in the loss.
Four Sun Devils scored in double figures in the win with Kimberly Brandon led the team with 16 points. Dymond Simon added 13 points while Tenaya Watson and Janae Fulcher added 10 points each.
Cal Poly shot 38 percent from the floor and hit 40 percent from long range, but could only manage 56 percent (10-18) from the line in the loss.
ASU shot 36 percent from the line and only 29 percent from long range while hitting 71 percent form the line (20-28).
The Mustangs were outrebounded 45-33 with ASU holding a 26-25 advantage in turnovers.
Clancy hit five of nine shots from the floor while the sophomore made her first start of the year hit six of nine shots from the floor and two of three from the line.
Abby Bloetsche, a junior, added nine points and four rebounds while Aly Geppert scored seven off the bench.
The Mustangs will face either Lamar or New Mexico in Saturday's consolation game.
